Masks and Confetti Eggs

Learning about other cultures, especially about the holidays and celebrations can be fun. In Mrs. Fielding’s class we celebrated “Carnaval” which is held in many Spanish-speaking countries just before Lent.  There are special foods, parties and parades.  Mardi Gras is actually a “carnaval” celebration.  In Spanish II we made masks, which are typical in countries such as Chile and Brazil. “Carlos” really went all out with his.  Here are also some that show that Wildcat spirit.
In Spanish I we made “cascarones” or decorated confetti-filled eggs.  These are usually made at Easter time and for birthdays.  The eggs are not supposed to be keepsakes, but broken over friends or family members’ heads for good luck!
Also in Spanish II, we took a virtul trip to Costa Rica.  By using a greenscreen, the students placed themselves on site in that beautiful country.  Here is Summer Day enjoying a face-to-face with a live toucan. Tristan, Brayden and Grant looked for exotic fruit you can’t find in the USA in an open-air market.  Finally, Bethany went zip lining over the canopy of the rain forest.  That way she didn’t come in contact with any jaguars!
